Obama's Future Disappears Over The Deepwater Horizon
by Xavier Connolly.

President Obama described the oil spill from the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico as America's worst environmental disaster ever. That is not true, the oil spillng from the fractured well has a long way to go before overtaking a similar blowout in the Gulf in 1979. What do we expect from the rock star President other than posing, posturing and crude attempt to make political capital out of catastrophe.

This week Barack Obama has been seen on television news bulletins around the world talking about how he would know whose arse to kick over the oil spilling from the stricken Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico and polluting the waters of that sea.

The spill is now in its seventh week and for the people who live on the shores of the Gulf Of Mexico and make their living from its beaches and waters this accident is a catastrophe. It is a problem of huge proportions both financially, operationally and in public relations terms for well operator BP. But it is Backack Obama's disaster. The indecision and lack of leadership qualities he has shown expose him for the vacuous man he is.

All Obama, hailed as the great thinker, the empowerer, enabler, unifier and leader, the man of infinite charisma and boundless intellect, has done so far however is indulge in slagging of Britain and all things British.

For all Obama's sly accusations and sneaky innuendo there is no more evidence of malfeasance on the part of BP than there is of the Obama administration having planned the disaster to support their green initiatives (one of the wilder accusations to come from the American right.)

Drilling for oil below a 5,000ft seabed is a difficult business which involves risks. But it is essential. Only recently the ash belched out by a small volcano in Iceland caused chaos in Western Europe when it grounded commercial flights showing how heavily dependent on air travel the nations of the developed world are.

The modern world depends even more heavily on oil. In spite of all the vacuous rhetoric about "the green economy" spewed out by Obama and other politicians who like to style themselves "the progressive left" the world's appetite for oil in increasing at an accelerating rate as the economies of China, India and other large developing nations catch up with the traditional economic leaders. Over the next two decades, we will need to find four new oil field each the equivalent in terms of extractable reserves of the Saudi Arabian bonanza. As there are currently no realistic alternatives to oil offshore drilling is unavoidable and deep water exploration imperative. BP has long ben a leader in this type of exploration, as well as devoting significant budgets to developing sustainable energy sources that are economically viable and reliable enough to replace fossil fuel and nuclear energy. Lord Browne, BP's former chief executive once suggested renaming the company "Beyond Petroleum". Unfortunately all the alternatives tested so far have been disappointing so the world is not yet ready to boldly go beyond petroleum.

Forget the climate change hysteria for the moment. We are stuck with oil unless we are willing to return to a near medieval lifestyle. For that reason oil companies have been drilling in deep waters over the past 20 years. Most oil analysts can see no alternative to exploration in the Atlantic and the Arctic and around the Falkland Islands. Above all, it explains the extent of the drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, the fastest growing oil region in the world, now producing 30 per cent of the US's oil needs. A case can be made that the recent scare about catastrophic climate change was fabricated to soften up taxpayers for swingeing energy taxes to fund the costs of opening up these fields.

Let's not pretend oil was ever a safe business to be in. Oilmen have always known that they were dealing with a dangerous and volatile substance. From the real life exploits of Red Adair to some spectacular Hollywood blockbusters we have been shown what can go wrong when trying to get at oil deposits that have lain undisturbed for millions of years. President Obama is typical shallow, showboating style has been hyping up the current spill as America's worst environmental disaster ever. Well let's skip delicately over Bophal and think back to another even bigger spill in the Gulf. In 1979 the Pemex well Ixtoc 1 hit a gas pocket and spilled an estimate 3.5 million gallons of crude into the gulf (Chris Cragg - Contributing Editor, European Energy Review Top letter under the heading BP and Corporate Responsibility) That leak took nine months to cap.

The difference here is that while the much aligned Carter administration just collaborated with the experts in trying to do what needed to be done, Obama is trying to politicise the whole thing and turn it into a Brit bashing exercise. Poor Obie, half literate, half educated is off the pace as usual. It is over a decade since the British government sold its golden share and BP stopped being British Petroleum and became a global brand owned by financial institutions that truly exist only in the uberwald of global business.

All the major oil companies – including BP – are obsessed with safety. They have offices and laboratories full of highly trained and vastly experienced personnel who work on nothing else.

The history of the oil industry is punctuated by disasters: Exxon Valdez, Piper Alpha, Texas City. The history of modern aviation is also punctuated by disasters, too numerous to mention and far more costly in casualties. When a plane crashes, no one suggests that flying should be banned. It would be equally absurd to cease drilling because Barack Hussein Obama thinks it might in the short term put a few points on his poll ratings or at least slow the decline.

The Rising Seas Are Not Down To Global Warming Alone.Rising Seas Not Down To Global Warming A new study shows that global warming is not the only cause of swelling seas. Much comes from "water mining" – the pumping of vast amounts of groundwater from beneath the earth, mainly to irrigate crops. This inevitably ends up in the oceans after it evaporates from farmland and comes down as rain.
The study which will be published in the next issue issue of Geophysics Research Letters – estimates that extraction of ground water for domestic and industrial use accounts for about 25% of sea-level rise around the world, the same as the melting ice from the glaciers outside Greenland and Antarctica.

Obama Diplomatic Goof Over LockerbieThe Obama Adminisdtration showed gobsmacking arrogance in summoning Scottish and British justice miniters to give evidence before a Senate committee into the release on humanitarian grounds of Abdelbaset al - Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber. Obama And The Lockerbie BomberThe Daily Stirrer has commented many times on the racist nature of the Obama administration and the detestation of "white" people in general and the British in particular that President Barack Hussein Obama can barely be bothered to conceal. No matter we say, Britain benefits little from the so called "special relationship", the myth of which has been perpetuated by..
Did BP Lobby For Lockerbie Bomber's ReleaseThe latest measure of politically correct socialist insanity from the "progressive left" othertwise known as the populist authoritarian Labour party has come via the accusation that oil giant BP lobbied Gordon Brown's government for the release of the Lockerbie Bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi. We hope this is a total fabrication because BP, already in trouble for the Deepwater Horizon oil rig's exploding and millions of gallons of crude oil leaking into the Gulf of Mexico from the uncapped well, may not be able to withstand a new crisis while Barack Obama is clutching at straws in his efforts to save his failed Presenency.
David Cameron Shoots Himself In The Face David Cameron had got off to such a good start in his relations with America, putting Obama in his place about economics and deficit spending, revealing plans for withdrawal from Afghanistan, pointing out the BP has not been British Petroleum for many years and getting some concessions for convicted pentagon hacker Gary McKinnon. So why has it gone wrong?

More Climate Science Fraud Exposed: Himalyan Glaciers Are Not Melting
The Himalayas has lost no significant ice over the past decade, according to a new study, that found melting ice from glaciers is having a much smaller effect on sea levels than previously thought. Previous studies relied on physical measurements of ice caps and glaciers on the ground. It's ironic that people who have relied on high tech modelling techniques to conceal the reality of what is going on are now exposed (again) as crooks and liars by new high tech methods of measuring glaciers ...

No Jobs For The Masses In The New Economy Despite University Education

One Decent Jobs Report Does Not Make A Recovery
There are two reasons why President Obama rushed to the microphone on Friday shortly after the government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released relatively good news (by recent standards) that the unemployment rate dropped to 8.3% in January, while the economy added 243,000 seasonally adjusted jobs. ...

Unemployment at 8.3% Still Leaves A Vast And Destructive Jobs Deficit Robert Reich, The Guardian
The most significant aspect of January's jobs report is political. The fact that America's labor market continues to improve is good news for the White House. But as a practical matter, the improvement is less significant for the American workforce.

Much Media Ado About Nothing What connects seemingly disparate works such as The Silence of the Lambs, Cape Fear, Mad Men, and Seinfeld? It is the philosophy of nihilism, first popularized by Friedrich Nietzsche in the late 19th century. But in the last few decades, how did it become the dominant worldview of Hollywood? Dawn Of The Ice Age Signals The End Of The Global Warming Scam Back then, the media and activists trumpeted the arrival of a new ice age, with the specter of ice sheets and glaciers covering half the northern hemisphere, and brutal winters in the remaining ice-free zones. The fact that the media and popular culture and academia have veered from one panic-inducing disaster scenario to another one which completely contradicts the first one is funny enough in its own right. But reading The Weather Conspiracy: The Coming of the New Ice Age opened my eyes to an even more significant aspect ...
