Universities are being asked to “repair the problems of 18 years of upbringing and education” by skewing admissions in favour of poorly performing pupils, according to a leading headmaster. How fucked is British society if universities, the breeding ground of political correctness, multiculturalism, the equal rights industry and so many other plagues that afflict modern society are being asked to sort out the problems they have worked so hard and so long to create.

To pressure uniservity admisions officers into making offers to students with lower grades from state schools is like forcing an engineer to improve the design of an aircraft “after the plane has already crashed”, Phillip Cottam will claim in a speech today.

Mr. Cottam, the chairman of the Society of Headmasters and Headmistresses of Independent Schools, says the number of children from deprived backgrounds failing to fulfil their potential is a “blot” on society. But forcing admissions tutors to repair these problems by discriminating against privately educated teenagers will fail to address key weaknesses in the education system, he adds.

Speaking at the society’s annual conference, he will criticise the decline of the state grammar school system which provided a decent academic education for pupils from the poorest families. His comments come just weeks after ministers insisted universities should admit more students from state schools and deprived backgrounds in return for charging over Ł6,000 in annual fees.

Cottam, the headmaster of fee-paying Halliford School in Shepperton, Middlesex, says more attention should be given to repairing Britain’s education system. “Trying to force universities to repair, let alone make up for, the problems of 18 years of upbringing and education is certainly not the answer,” he will say. “It is approaching the issue from the wrong end and is like asking an engineer to improve the design of an aircraft after the plane has already crashed.”

He will tell headmasters at the society’s conference in Telford, Shropshire that “discriminating against independent-school pupils using a mechanistic template is unfair to young people educated in private schools. It often feels feels as if opponents of private education believe that the academic success does not reflect any real ability or potential, let alone hard, determined work by the individuals themselves,” he says.

He will also say the modern education system fails to promote competition or push pupils towards excellence.

“An education system that emphasises entitlement at the expense of talent, effort and commitment will not develop the strength of character we need in order to deal with the ups and downs of life,” Mr. Cottam's audience will hear.

Mr Cottam says educators are expected to provide the answer to the social ills of society, with the result that it resembles a branch of psychotherapy”. )

Many of the most famous schools in the world – including Eton, Marlborough, Harrow and Dulwich College – registered lower results than some of England’s worst-performing comprehensives because of technicality. The rock-bottom ratings come because most independent schools have dropped conventional GCSEs in some subjects and ...

The comprehensive education system has become one of the sacred cows of the "progressive left" in spite of its very obvious failure. The old Grammar School system only segregated on grounds of intelligence whereas the system now with its postcode lottery and the growth of private schools for the rich segregates on grounds of parental wealth, social class and geogrphic location. Intelligence does not enter the equation. So the selective way was more egalitarian, what are the leftie whiners on about.

US Ebola patient's health improves again

An American healthcare worker who contracted the dangerous Ebola virus while working in Sierra Leone has improved and is now listed in fair condition, hospital officials said Monday. The man, whose identity has not been revealed, "has improved from serious to fair condition," said a statement from the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. In a statement released on Thursday, PIH co-founder Paul Farmer said that the man had, "in the opinion of some of the best doctors and nurses in the world, turned the corner," after his condition improved from critical to serious. The patient was evacuated from Sierra Leone on March 14 and brought to the NIH's Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland just outside Washington for treatment.

Child poverty impacts brain development: study

Children of richer, better-educated parents have bigger brains and more cognitive skills than their less-fortunate peers, but social help and teaching can help to overcome the differences, a study published on Monday said. The impact was "meaningful in terms of the way the brain is working in these kids", study co-author Elizabeth Sowell of the University of Southern California told AFP. "We found that the relationship between brain (structure) and family income impacted kids' cognitive functioning," Sowell said by email. "It is not too late to think about how to impact resources that enrich the developmental environment, that in turn help the brain wire itself together," Sowell said.

Spanish hospital conducts complex face transplant

A Spanish hospital said Monday it has successfully carried out the world's most complex face transplant, reconstructing the lower face, neck, mouth, tongue and back of the throat of a man terribly disfigured by disease. A team of 45 physicians, nurses, anaesthesiologists and other health professionals carried out the 27-hour operation in early February at Barcelona's Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, the hospital said in a statement. "This is the first time that a transplant of this complexity is performed in the world," the statement said. The man had been examined in several other hospitals, including the Mayo Clinic and Harvard Medical School in the United States, which had considered him to be inoperable but the Barcelona hospital ruled surgery was his only treatment option.

Sierra Leone back to work after Ebola lockdown

Sierra Leoneans breathed a sigh of relief on Monday as they emerged from a three-day nationwide lockdown imposed in a bid to prevent a resurgence of the deadly Ebola virus. The country's population of more than six million had been confined to their homes starting early on Friday, for the second time in six months, on orders from President Ernest Bai Koroma. "Stepping out this morning, I took several sniffs of the fresh air and said 'thank you, Lord'," hawker Tommy Carew smiled as he returned to the streets in the capital Freetown. The lockdown was called over fears the disease that has killed almost a third of the 12,000 people infected in Sierra Leone was making a comeback around the capital and in the north.

Climate Change and Leftist Psycological Malware.
It may seem far fetched but it is possible to link the techniques of the climate change / anti capitalist lobby to the brainwashing prorammes used by the Nazis in Germany, Stalin's Soviet regime in Russia and Chaitrman Mao's brutal government in Communist China. Thus it becomes quite similar to malware that infects computer systems. The left do not care about saving the planet, all they are interested in is advancing their totalitarian, globalist agenda.

Google Meets White House Officials Every Week, Why?
We have been very suspicious for ten years of the way Google with such apparent ease achieved a dominant position in web search. How did it happen, did Google do something evil, did they invoke the powers of darkness in their meteoric rise. Or were there even darker forces at work, powering Google to a position in which their internet technologies could dominate global information flows? Here's something cynics should read.

Venezuela's President Maduro Accuses USA Of Psychological Warfare
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has accused forces in the United States, Colombia, and Spain of waging an international “psychological war campaign” against his country. The US House of Representatives Openly Calls for Regime Change in Moscow

As the General Election campaign starts to heat up, we try to shift focus away from the squabbling between Conservative and Labour about who can make the most promises they have no intention of keeping and to the real issues concerning jobs, social breakdown , mass immigration, and an often overlooked area in which our EU membership has perhaps done more damage than any other, the fishing industry.

German Ubermacht Gives Greek Upstats The Finger In European Union Confrontation. The confrontation between Germany, which some say sees itself as the increasingly dominant nation in the EU as 'ever closer integration' progresses, and Greece, the Euro zone economic basket case but a proud and independent nation all the same, had to come. Germany was more austerity from Greece to protect the value of the Greek debt it hold. Greece want money from Germany to settle old grievances.

France Moves to Make ‘Conspiracy Theories’ Illegal by Government Decree
Political elites and super-bureaucrats must be very worried. New start up political parties, dismissed as populist byt in reality listening to the concerns of voters are making inroads into the political status quo. New media investigative journalists and op-ed writers are challenging the official propaganda (and gaining an ever bigger audience). It’s becoming harder to control consensus reality.
