And The Truth Is A Low Salt Diet Is A Health Risk?

Conventional wisdom tells us too much salt in our diet is a health risk but many studies showing the opposite is true are not widely reported. Have health experts and medical scientists been taking lessonb of the climate change science crooks and liars?

And The Truth Is A Low Salt Diet Is A Health Risk?

Ian Thorpe 24 November 2011 Is he saying a Low-salt diet ups risk of fatal heart attack? You might well ask because you have always been told the opposite.

It seems while doctors health scientists, politicians, public health officials and other pokenosing public health officials have been telling us for years consuming too much sodium through our can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke by raising blood pressure to unsafe levels they were lying. How does one go about explaining a new study that suggests low salt intake actually increases the risk of dying from those causes? Well I am not a doctor but as it happens I am very well informed on the actual risk as opposed to they official hype about the dangers of too much salt. I have personal experience you see, having been almost killed by having too much salt in my body although I had a low salt diet (not for health reasons, I can't stand salty food.)

The recent study, which tracked the diet and health of 3,681 healthy European men and women age 60 or younger for eight years also found that above-average sodium intake did not appear to up the risk of developing high blood pressure (hypertension) or dying of a heart attack or stroke. The findings, reported in the May 4 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, certainly seem to go against the received wisdom, especially in light of the ongoing public-health campaign to lower sodium consumption across the developed world. by urging restaurants and food manufacturers to curtail their use of the ingredient and display salt content along with fat content on food labels and restaurant menus.

Health.com: 25 foods with tons of hidden salt

In fact, says Jan A. Staessen, M.D., the senior author of the study and the head of the hypertension laboratory at the University of Leuven, in Belgium, the findings "do not support the current recommendations of a generalized and indiscriminate reduction of sodium or table salt intake across the whole population."

Salt lovers shouldn't buy bigger salt cellars yet, though. A closer look at the findings shows that they're not as out of line with the low-sodium mantra as they might seem.

One flaw in the study according to its detractors was that the participants' sodium consumption was gauged by measuring the sodium content of their urine over just one 24-hour period at the beginning of monitoring. This method is considered the gold standard for estimating sodium intake but a single snapshot urine test may not provide an accurate snapshot of the participants' everyday intake over the full eight-year study, as the researchers themselves note. Ironically studies sponsored by the anti - salt lobby have relied on the same method and they never complained about it then.

Health.com: The 10 best foods for your heart

Of greater concern was the participants had blood pressure in the normal range at the beginning of the study and were white, relatively young, and slimmer on average than the typical American. Past research has shown that people with hypertension, blacks, older people, and heavier people tend to react more negatively to sodium. "Maybe it would be better to pinpoint specific subgroups," says Jerome Fleg, M.D., a medical officer in the division of cardiovascular sciences at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, in Bethesda, Maryland. "This is probably not the group that would get the biggest bang for the buck in terms of restricting sodium intake."

Staessen and his colleagues divided the study participants into thirds according to their estimated sodium intake. Although higher salt intake was not linked to an increased risk of hypertension, it was associated with very small increases in systolic blood pressure (the top number).

Where the results of the study get interesting is in looking at participants who suffered Cardio vascular problems during the period studied. Slightly more than 6 percent had a heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular emergency during the study. Roughly one-third of which were fatal. Those who consumed the least salt had a 56 percent higher risk of death from a heart attack or stroke compared with those who had the highest consumption, even after controlling for obesity, cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, and other risk factors.

The researchers don't have a firm explanation for this finding, but they speculate that sodium intake low enough to decrease blood pressure may also decrease sensitivity to insulin, encourage a stress response in the nervous system, and affect hormones that regulate blood pressure and sodium absorption. "Each of these effects might have unfavorable impact on cardiovascular mortality," Staessen says.

Most Americans consume more sodium per day than is considered healthy. Federal guidelines recommend limiting consumption to 2,300 milligrams per day, or 1,500 milligrams for blacks and people with hypertension. Some health organizations have been lobbying the federal government to drop the goal for everyone to 1,500 milligrams a day, Fleg says.

Despite the study's shortcomings, the findings do suggest that sodium guidelines should perhaps take into account differences among individuals, says Randal Thomas, M.D., a preventive cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota.

"We know that not everybody is as sensitive to sodium in their diet as others. Even among people with high blood pressure, no more than half are probably sodium sensitive, and in the general population, it's probably less than 10 percent," Thomas says. "In setting up a public policy, it's important to recognize the need to have a policy that doesn't punish the majority for the benefit of the minority."

Everything The Science Whores Told You About Eating Fat Was A Lie.
We have been telling you so for years, but at last the world seems to be cathing up with The Daily Stirrer. Another independent study confirms that the scientists ('A sack of rogues bought and paid for with corporate gods' to paraphrase Burns) have been lying about the health risks of eating saturated fat. It's process vegetable fat, created in laboratories by scientists and other synthesized foods that damage human health.

Obesity now costs equivalent of one third of entire NHS budget
According to one of those sensationalist headlines that lefties would ridicule if it was in The Daily Mail but will treat as a commandment handed down on a tablet of stone if it appears in The Guardian or (as it actually has been) is published in a piece of official propaganda, obesity now costs the UK more than armed violence, war and terrorism.

The science of saturated fat: A big fat surprise about nutrition?

But Pfizer are not free market capitalists, they are corporatists and as ove of the leading corporatists, David Rockefeller once said, "Competition is sin".

Long Term Use of Paracetmol Can Injure or Kill
More news from the great healthcare scam and it isn't good. Independent research (i.e. not funded by people who profit from your doctor making you addicted to painkillers) shows that long term use of high doseage parcetamol can damage your liver more than heavy drinking. makes one wonder how much of the current 'liver disease epidemic' is due to prescription drugs rather than booze.

Another study on obesity risks shows scientists will say anything if you pay them enough
For years people have complained about the health industry's food fascism and obsession with the entirely fallacious idea tha being overweight is the same as obesity. The ravings of doctors about obesity in the case of people who are a few pounds overweight really make their profession look stupid. Now, in response to surveys that show slightly overweight people live longer comes the science whore to tell us it's impossible to be overweight and healthy.

With Cuba decision, Obama hands Hillary Clinton a gift

By Steve Holland WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton knows a political gift when she sees one. She was quick to embrace the step this week when President Barack Obama, a fellow Democrat no longer having to face an electorate, relaxed U.S. policy toward Cuba. While assailed by Republicans opposed to restoring ties with the communist-led island, the action has the power to solidify support for Democrats among increasingly influential Latino voters and appeal to voters in farm states like Iowa eager to do business in Havana. ...

Britain's army currently allows women to serve on the front line, but does not let them join units whose main function is to engage and kill the enemy. The United States, Australia and Canada are among those nations which already have women in close combat roles. ...

Evolution: Theory, Fact or Fiasco?
Much as I have faith in Charles Darwin's Theory Of Evolution as a feasible explanation of how diverse species originate (The Origin Of The Species) it annoys me when science fans insist "Evolution is not a theory, its a fact."
