Green Policies Will Not Save The Planet But Are Costing Poor Families The Earth

by Ian R Thorpe.

Politicians bleat sabout the plight of the poor then press on with their clean, green, sustainable energy policies which include stealth taxes to subsidise expensive and inefficient wind turbine and solar panel power generators. Can they not see it is the green agenda that is driving up inflation.

Green Policies Will Not Save The Planet But Are Costing Poor Families The Earth

by Ian R Thorpe
3 February, 2012

The 'green agenda' is pushing up the cost of living for lower earners. Subsidies to owners and operators of wind and solar generator plants are putting 10% or more onto domestic fuel bills. And because even climate scientists, the most religiously deluded people ever, have now been forced to admit that wind turbines and solar panels of photo voltaic cells cannot generate if the wind does not blow or blows too hard and the sun does not shine (i.e. at night and on rainy days) or its rays are striking the panel at too acute an angle.

Predictably, public spending addicted politicians like U S President Barack Obama and British Labour leader Ed Miliband are trying to blame austerity measures aimed at reducing government deficits for making life tough on those low and middle income families who are being hit hardest. Meanwhile Prime Minister David Cameron has heaped scorn on what he calls "rip-off Britain". Both Cameron and Miliband are missing the point when they wring their hands, wail and gnash their teeth about the problems face by low earners A major factor in squeezing the domestic budgets of families has been the huge increase in fuel bills. And adding a big percentage to fuel bills are the subsidies offered to con artists and chancers to set up "sustainable" generation plants in order to meet the impossible targets for reduction of CO2 emissions set by the previous government. The green agenda is driving up living costs and making life harder for vast swathes of Britain.

Ironically this huge investment does not reduce emissions at all. The electricity supplied by wind and solar is so unreliable and inconsistent we have to keep fossil fuel and nuclear plants running to maintain an adequate current.

Back to the poor and soon-to-be-poor. People on low incomes spend 15 per cent of their total expenditure on food and nonalcoholic drinks, and between a third and a half on housing, fuel and power. Interference under the Labour Government (Labour, you know, once the party of the poor, the working class, the downtrodden masses, now the party of academics, senior professionals and millionaires) which by a system of taxes and subsidies pushed up the costs of these essential items. The Coalition government is not yet showing any signs of doing anything to switch to a more sensible approach, indeed it is continuing with a policy that is pushing up the cost of living in the name of saving the environment: the so-called ”green agenda”. Yes, even after the spectacle of wind turbines bursting into flames during recent high winds and the report that during a period of intense cold in the winter of 2010 / 11 when the weather was almost windless, the existing wind farm installations contributed nothing to the national grid at a time when demand was at its highest, politicians are still besotted with windmills.

Since the Global Warming scare began we have seen the cost of energy rise substantially every year and the last thing hard pressed households need is a stealth tax putting on their fuel bill so that landowners who rent their fields or moorland to wind farm operators can get rich at the taxpayers expense . A recent report by the Institute of Economic Affairs pointed out: “The government estimates that climate change policies, primarily the Renewables Obligation and the EU Emission Trading Scheme, will be adding 26% to domestic electricity prices in real terms by 2015 and 10% to domestic gas prices.”

Government meddling is also pushing up the cost of our food. The E U Common Agricultural Policy, an old villain is pushing up prices through mechanisms that distort the market, while import tariffs deny consumers access to cheap food from outside the EU. It is difficult to estimate the effect of this on a family's weekly shop but it is significant and to compound the problem E U regulations influence through quotas what can be produced. Thus Britain is flying in eggs from eastern Europe while British poultry farmers are put out of business because they cannot compete with the price of subsidised eggs (so much for being concerned about the environment when loonytoons schemes like flying eggs a couple of thousand miles are approved.) To make matters worse, UK taxpayers are funding this system through payments to the EU. The cost to taxpayers across all of Europe is currently €55 billion a year.

We have a housing crisis in Britain at the moment. The private rental sector was destroyed by a Labour government in the 1960, they were still fighting the class wars of the 1920s and 30s. The municipal housing stock was destroyed in the 1980s by another ideologue, Margaret Thatcher. Environmentalism and restrictive planning laws have been pushing up house prices for a generation by limiting house building. Now few people can afford to take that first step by putting down a deposit on their own home. Due to regulation Britain’s dwellings are now among the smallest in Western Europe, in many new build houses there is literally not enough room to swing the proverbial cat. In Germany, where many more people are happy to rent homes, house prices have remained flat in real terms over the last 35 years, while rising 250% in the UK, USA and Australia. What is it about the English speaking nations and property. In addition, the requirement to produce a certain proportion of affordable housing for people in poorly paid but essential occupations is acting as a disincentive to developers. Government schemes, such as the one recently announced to help first-time buyers, might be small beer but may easily result in increased prices if supply is not simultaneously liberalised.

Housing benefit paid to the unemployed and unemployable also has a damaging effect, because it acts as a floor on rents. This is particularly hard for those just above the benefits level.

Figures from the National Statistics Office show that real incomes in the industrial and administrative sector have been stagnating for years. There is not much the Government can do directly about income, but there are sensible actions a government could take to bring down the cost of living if they wanted to do so.

In spite of all the political windbaggery about how to help less well off people who are being hit hard by the recession little is actually being done. In the big to win the support of this very large voting bloc, politicians should remember that voters notice the impact of policy, not the lofty idealism behind it. Government meddling in the day to day lives of the people, telling us what we should eat, how much or little is a safe amount of alcohol to drink, how much television we should watch, how we should behave towards minorities and how our children should be brought up might be good at producing a quick headline or appeasing the green lobby or the Politically Correct Thought Police, but developing a coherent social policy across these areas rather than looking for quick fixes is the way to make a real impact for families and start to repair what David Cameron has called "The Broken Society". A small increase in the cost of living might not seem much to some, but those struggling and budgeting down to the last penny to get by will soon notice if the Government starts to make a real difference to what their weekly budget will stretch to.

Climate change is a theory for which there is "no scientific proof at all" says the co-founder of Greenpeace
As the science behind the great global warming scare is exposed as a complete fraud, the zealots of The Church Of Climate Science are getting more fanatical in trying to impose their crackpot religion on the gullible and weak minded (aka politicians). Trouble is nobody trusts either politicians or scientists so all that is achieved is to keep attention focused on the bullsit of a bunch of crooks a bunch of and liars while serious environmental issues are ignored.

Spain dumps clean-energy subsidies; promptly watches the industry go down like a sinking ship
The news that Spain has dumped it's loonytoons green energy policy will surprise few people who have followed the wind turbine scam. Wind power as a source of energy is unreliable and inefficient and it was only in a fit of green socialist insanity Spain's previous government committed that beleagured nation to meeting the bulk of its energy needs from wind and sun powreed generators. The scientists who advised them forgot it oes dark for approximately half the time and the wind blows when it fels like blowing.

Peccavimus (poem)
A reflection on the way we have treated the world. I am not convinced by 'the science' that the main threat we face comes from carbon dioxide emitted by human activity, in fact I think that is just a diversion to steer attention away from the serious harm we are doing to our planet through many other human activities.

High Court Says Government's Green Energy OCD Does Not Override Natural Beauty
he Government feels compelled to boost the amount of energy from renewables as part of climate change targets imposed by Europe because of pledges that have no basis in law that were given by a previous government to the smooth faced unelected bureaucrats, the internationalist Nazis whose agenda aims to create a single European superstate as a stepping stone towards the establishment of ...

Electricity bills set to rise to pay for wind farm subsidiesWhile sensible people agree that the climate is causing serious problems few people still think this is due solely to CO2 emissions from human activity. Even the author of Gaia theory has said the problem is more complex. Unfortunately climate scientists with their snouts in the tax money trough are still pushing the discredited idea that wind turbines and solar panels can meet our energy needs. Well if that is the case why are domestic fuel bills rising to pay for subsidies paid to the operators of these failed technologies. [ also Daily Stirrer 21 May 2012
Truth Murderering GreensWhen the Heartland Institute launched an ad campaign comparing climate alarmists to mass murderers the green lobby rather predictably threw a hissy fit. Green Energy Causing Global WarmingFancy A Laugh? Here's a good story. A new scientific study says wind farms can cause climate change. The new research, that shows for the first time the new technology is already pushing up temperatures. But on huge wind farms the motion of the turbines mixes the air higher in the atmosphere ...

Klondike 2: The Great Arctic Oil RushAs the case for CO2 driven climate change continues to crumbe we start to look at how we can keep the wheels of our national economies going. Drilling for oil in the Arctic is a high risk activity but absolutely necessary
Food Price CrisisWhile the warmists rant about carbon and the Church of Scienceology Cult rave about climate science. there are threee real and immediate problems facing us that nobody is talking about. These are overpopulation, water shortage and food price inflation. This article deals with food prices, links at the bottom lead to our posts on population and water scarcity. Futility Of Wind FarmsIn some ways the Conservative / Liberal Democrat coalition has made quite a good start in government. One area they are set to fail badly however is energy. Driven by politically correct thinking the coalition are set to follow Labour down the road that goes through wind power and eventually leads nowhere. Wind turbines look fine on paper but the reality falls short Inflation - The Stealth CrisisInflation is the cruellest tax of all, taxing as it does in effect the savings and pensions of hard working people by reducing the value of currency to inflate away the debts run up by incompetent politicians and profligate public servants Inflation - The Cruellist Stealth TaxInflation is the cruellest tax, it hits the cautious, prudent and hard working, rewards the feckless, reckless and downright foolish. We have a bout of inflation under way, engineered by governments to reduce their unsdustainable levels of debt incurred in the business of buying otes to stay in power. What will be its effect on ordinary people? Green Scaremongeringthe trend among people who like to label themseves "scientists" to brush aside criticism from highly educated and well informed individuals outside their specialist field by saying "You're not a scientists, you don't understand science," arouses deep suspicion. We are rght to be sceptical and suspicious .... To Feed The World We Need More CO2 And Less GM ScienceWarmageddonists are always whining about hoe raised levels of CO2 in air will destroy human society. It is very well known however that most animal life can happily breathe much higher concentrations. Another fear is failure of food supplies. But others argue raising CO2 levels would nullify the case for another science sacred cow GM food crops. So who is right? The Great Wind Turbine ScamA detailed and damning critique of wind turbine technology, renewable energy scams, green lobbying, the dodgy science behind the case for sustainable power and the politicisation of concerns about the environment. The whole thing looks more and more like a confidence trick by academics, politicians, big business and the New World Order. Globalisation can work, but only with a unified international plan says Will Hutton. WRONG!We need global economic and social institutions working across national borders economist Will Hutton who now appears to have been re educated and started working for The New World Order argued recently. If only it were that simple. Unfortunately globalization is the enemy not the trigger of the kind of economic recovery we need.
No Jobs For The Masses In The New Economy Despite University EducationNo matter how leaders like David Cameron and Barack Obama try to talk up their economies or assure voters the jobs market is improving, growth returning and unemployment will soon start falling, the truth is change does not equal progress and forcing the pace of social change has only masked the true depth of economic and social problems. One of these is unemployment and particularly joblessness among the young. Even a universdity education does not provide a guaranteed career path.

Europe Does Not Just Have A Debt Crisis But A Crisis Of DemocracyEurope's debt crisis and the possible collapseb of the Euro zone are exercising many political commentators. Drop in UK inflation Is Not Good Newshe Office for National Statistics has reported a sharp fall in the Consumer Prices Index - down from 4.8 per cent in November to 4.2 per cent last month - was the sharpest drop in the annual rate since December 2008 when the UK was in recession and VAT was reduced. Washington governor signs medical marijuana overhaul

(Reuters) - Washington Governor Jay Inslee on Friday signed a bill that will overhaul the state's medical marijuana market, reconciling the long unregulated system with the voter-approved recreational pot industry. While marijuana remains illegal under federal law, voters in Washington state and Colorado approved recreational cannabis use in landmark votes in 2012 that ushered in licensed and taxed retail stores offering a range of products to adults. "Today, after tremendous hard work and compromise by legislators on both sides of the aisle, I signed a bill that will create a medical marijuana system that works for Washington." The bill will remove collective gardens that supply medical dispensaries starting next year, in favor of four-person "cooperatives." Some existing collectives will be allowed to continue operating however, if granted a license on the basis of factors such as the applicant's tax history. It will also establish a voluntary database of medical patients and let authorized patients possess three times the amount of marijuana allowed by the recreational-use law.

A Japanese man has been arrested for landing a drone on the prime minister's office with a minuscule amount of radiation in an apparent protest against the use of nuclear power, four years after the Fukushima disaster. Media reported that Yamamoto turned himself in at a police station in Fukui and said he landed the drone as a protest against nuclear power. A drone marked with a radioactive sign was found on the roof of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's office on Wednesday.

French firm announces multiple sclerosis drug breakthrough

French biotechnology company MedDay on Friday announced encouraging results for a multiple sclerosis (MS) drug trial, saying it decreased its progress and in some cases led to a "significant improvement" for sufferers. "This is the first time that a drug has been able to decrease the rate of disease progression in addition to improving a significant proportion of patients with progressive MS," said MedDay CEO Frederic Sedel in a statement. The experimental MD1003 drug underwent Phase III clinical trial, the last stage before filing for authorisation to market the drug in the treatment of primary and secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. The results of the study, presented Friday to the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology, were encouraging, said Professor Ayman Tourbah, the study's principal investigator.
