No Jobs For The Masses In The New Economy Despite University Education
No matter how leaders like David Cameron and Barack Obama try to talk up their economies or assure voters the jobs market is improving, growth returning and unemployment will soon start falling, the truth is change does not equal progress and forcing the pace of social change has only masked the true depth of economic and social problems. One of these is unemployment and particularly joblessness among the young. Even a universdity education does not provide a guaranteed career path ... Education

Unemployment at 8.3% Still Leaves A Vast And Destructive Jobs Deficit Robert Reich, The Guardian

Much Media Ado About Nothing What connects seemingly disparate works such as The Silence of the Lambs, Cape Fear, Mad Men, and Seinfeld? It is the philosophy of nihilism, first popularized by Friedrich Nietzsche in the late 19th century. But in the last few decades, how did it become the dominant worldview of Hollywood? Dawn Of The Ice Age Signals The End Of The Global Warming Scam Back then, the media and activists trumpeted the arrival of a new ice age, with the specter of ice sheets and glaciers covering half the northern hemisphere, and brutal winters in the remaining ice-free zones. The fact that the media and popular culture and academia have veered from one panic-inducing disaster scenario to another one which completely contradicts the first one is funny enough in its own right. But reading The Weather Conspiracy: The Coming of the New Ice Age opened my eyes to an even more significant aspect ...

Our rising debt levels are becoming unsustainable – soon we may be talking about wealth confiscation (By Daniel Knowles, Daily Telegraph)
Debt, debt, debt; we’re drowning in it. This morning, the Office for National Statistics published the latest estimates of public sector borrowing. Though borrowing is falling faster than anticipated, thanks to the fact that spending cuts are finally beginning to kick in, the national debt has risen to 64.2 per cent of GDP. More significantly,…

The possibility that England may shortly see its first new grammar school in over 50 years has, predictably enough, re-opened the debate about selective education. Trust Me, I'm Doctor Google.
Just how much of our lives to the pathetic Labour Government plan to hand over to those fucking neo-nazis Google. Look at this: In the Times yesterday David Davis, the former shadow home secretary, turned on his party over reports that British patients might be encouraged to use Google Health and its counterparts, rather than persist with the expensive and much-delayed NHS database. "Google is the last company I would trust with data belonging to me," he wrote. Rather than increase personal control over medical data, he argues that it would end it. Google is not subject to ministerial orders, or European regulation. It promises never to sell advertising alongside medical information, but it has done deals with US pharmacy chains under which these groups are encouraging their 100 million customers to lodge their prescription records with Google Health Not only is it unacceptable to let an internet company be involved in management of our health records database but that the company under consideration is a bunch of sneaky little cunts who make their profits by spying on us, gathering information about our internet activities, shopping habits and private lives and selling it to any fucker willing to pay the asking price should be proof enough that we must throw Labour's Orwellian control freaks out of office, make sure they don't have enough MPs to fill a taxi and that they never get anyhere near power again.

And it's time we boycotted Google, it's a shit search engine anyway. Use Yahoo, Bing or Ask Jeeves. You will not get as many results (but are you ever going to look at more than the top twenty) What you will get is real, relevant links, not some bunch of con men trying to sell you a pile of shite you don't want.

If you are wondering why I am so angry, read this. Google in Labour Health Data Plan 27 july 2009 Climate Change Is Too Complex For Science To Analyse. Gaia Theory Still Stands Despite the arguments raging aound the world between the statistics obsessed climate change scientists and those working for vested interests who seek to debunk the idea of climate change, the foryy year old Gaia theory, though it is too complex for mathematical analysis and for being reduced to a few simplistic statistics, still holds up.

Climate Change: Too Little, Too Late, Too Uncertain
Governments around the world are getting threir knickers in a right old twist about climate change. As usual with governments they are looking for quick fixes, expedients, anything that will make people believe their leaders are on the case without actually requiring politicians to make a decision or commit to a course of action.

So far the only quick fixes being taled about are loonytoons technologies and insanely dangerous tricks like releasing fine particles into the upper atmosphere to block some of the sunlight and reflect it back intop space.

The time to do somthing about climate change (it was those drama queens the scientists who wrongly dubbed it global warming) was thirty years ago. Back then the scientists sat aound stroking their chins and saying "of course the case is anecdotal, there is no scientific evidence of climate change.

Now nobody knew then whether what was happening was due to human activity alone or natural causes. But if it was caused by us the process had started at the beginning of the industrial revolution 300 years before. So whatever the cause, with 300 years momentum behind it, like the Titanic, the process cannot be reversed quickly.

If we had had thirty years to work at it we could have improved sea defences in low lying areas, developed new food crops better suited to wetter / drier conditions in certain parts of the world, taught Africans and Asians to use contraception as in poor zones. Less kids means more food for those you do have and generally been better prepared to cope.

Now all we can do is hope our nations and cultures survive when the planet adapts to different conditions.

Criminal Justice Bill - If You've Done Nothing Wrong You Have Nothing To Fear?
When people protested that measures contained in the 1994 Criminal Justice Bill in the UK could easily be used to curtail civil liberties and stifle dissent the official line was "if you've none nothing wrong you have nothing to fear." It turns out the protesters were right all along as the neo-nazi New Labour goovernment grows more desperate in its efforts to control public opinion.

Court cop out deals a big blow to Obama's credibility?. When Ledger-Enquirer reporter Lily Gordon wrote a short story Monday afternoon about a U.S. Army major filing a suit in federal court to stop his deployment to Afghanistan, she was not prepared for the reaction.

Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook and his lawyer, Orly Taitz, filed the suit July 8 in U.S. District Court asking for conscientious objector status and a preliminary injunction based on Cook’s belief that President Barack Obama is not a “natural born” citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as president of the United States and commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday, there were 62,140 unique yearly visitors — or users who had not clicked on the site in the previous 12 months — to the newspaper’s Web site, said Jeff Hendrickson, the Ledger-Enquirer’s senior editor for new media. During the same hour a week earlier, ledger-enquirer.com had 864 unique yearly visitors.

By the end of the day, nearly a half million new readers had visited the newspaper’s Web site. Also, there were 712,251 page views — more than seven times a normal daily volume. This fanatical defence of President Obama against any questioning of his credibiliy would be out of all proportion to the threat posed by what are alleged to be a bunch of "cranks and conspiracy theorists". If President Obama has nothing to fear from said "cranks and conspiracy theorists" why this outraged reaction from an apparently well organised faction of theam Obama (or The Cult Of The Obamessiah if you prefer.) It would be better would it not, rather than raising the profile of Obama's elegibility issues to just let the "cranks and conspiracy theorists" rave on about the absent birth certificate.

The problem is not just about the birth certificate and what it might reveal. The problem is also about the fact that by hios own admission Barack Hussein Obama (not his real name) was at Birth a subject of The British Empire. Obama wrote that himself and if it is true that fact alone renders him ineligible to serve as President under the terms of the US consitution. Then there is the question of religion. Obama, throughout his campaign denied he is or has ever been a Muslim. And yet in a college enrolment register from the early 1980s Barack Hussein Obama by his own hand delared himself a Muslim. Was he lying because he wanted to qualify for foreign student assistance, or was he then telling the truth and is now lying because in the current situation it is hardly likely Americans would elect a Muslim?

The truth of who and what Barack Hussein Obama really is must be revealed. This man has his finger on the nuclear war button. He commits his nations treasury to spending trillions of dollars of that already bankrupt nations funds. If the US economy collapses the world will be plunged into chaos. So just what is the agenda of this secretive and evasive man whose supporters when asked about his birth status will only say he declared himself a natural born citizen, who ruthlessly pursued (to the point of allegedly being complicit in the murder of a man who could have exposed some of his lies, the most powerful office in the world but who now beliees the public have no right to ask for sight of his birh records, his school records or his employment records (his CV is considerably less impressive than that of George W. Bush)

Read the story linked above from The Ledger - Enquirer and then read these links. And then ak yourself when Obama's supporters howl in shher outrage at criticisim of their Divine One might it not be a case of "they protst too much."

Aftyer all, a man with nothing to hide would have nothing to fear from settling the issus forever by just revealing the records, most of which ought to be available for inspection anyway buy many of which Mr. Obama has ordered to be sealed.

Will ID cards allow the taxman to track your spending habits
Although with Labour's electoral prospects are still in metldown and the Conservative Party pledged to kill the idea mean the national ID cards scheme is virtually dead, The New World Order does not give up on its pet projects easily. It is important we undertand how extensive were the invasuions of our privacy and personal liberty made possible by the RFID chip loaded Identity Card. Henry Porter here examines how the cards and the related database would have let the Revenue and Customs Department track our spending habits and other government departments monitor behaviour patterns.

US Senator seeks power to tell Americans what kind of cars they can buy
A report curculating around American news blogs has some bizarre possibilities:

According to a Des Moines Register report, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, wants Congress to use "climate change" legislation to mandate that auto manufacturers fit all new cars to run on a blend of 85 percent ethanol.

"We own the automobile companies," Harkin said earlier this week. "Why not? I think that will be an easy one."
As far as The Daily Stirrer is concerned it just show how far beyong anything resembling reality the Obama regime lives. They talk about science combating climate change and yet their committment to biofuel will not only use more fossil fiels in turning biomass into useable hyrdocarbons, it will also, in the face of increasing worldwide food shortages, requre valuable agricultural land to be allocated to what is essentially a pice of window dressing for The Obamessiah's World Domination Campaign.

Meanwhile of course, the UK government continues to perpetrate The Great Wind scam, pushing the idea we can meet most of our energy needs by polluting every area of natural beauty with hideous wind turbines that make a net contribution of negligable amounts of electricity to the grid during the two thirds of the time the wind blows within the operating range.

If It's Good Enought For The Public It's Good Enough For Senators Families As team Obama try to rush the vastly unpopular healthcare bill trough before congressmen have to return to their consituencies for the summer break and face the voters, why have the Democrats voted for an amendment exempting themselves from the otherwise compulsory system? Is this another example of change you can believe in?

Novus Ordo Seclorum (New World Order)
We have warned you of the determination among the elites of business and politics to create a single global system of governance, a global system of fiscal regulation and a global culture. It has been mentioned by membersd of the British, French and other European governments and people high up in the Administration of Barack Obama in the USA. Put it all together and it starts to sound like The Illuminati are at work.

Watch this video and you might even start to believe we are enteing The Illuminati's Endgame.

New World Order

Don't take things like this too seriously but do remember the words of The Buddha:

"Believe nothing. No matter where you read it, or who said it, even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense."
In the light of that advice look what is going on in your world; the surveillance society, the way financial collapse was engieered to make us all depoendent on the state, the use of fear and panic tactics to suppress dissent and the increasing bureaucratic interference in our private lives and then think it through for yourselves.

16 July 2009 Blair Must Be Stopped Now - He Is Not Fit To Be EU President.

At Little Nicky Machiavelli's blog my alter ego never likes to say I told you so, he absolutely loves it. A long time ago Little Nicky told his readers the traitor and war criminal Tony Blair was angling to be the first President of the Federal European Superstate. "Oh no, Little Nicky, people said, you've got Blair all wrong. Well today it was announced that proving the Irish voters can be bullied into ratifying at the second time of asking the Treaty of Lisbon 9what a fine example of democracy in action Europe is, if you don't vote the right way first time they give you a second chance) Blair will be a candidate for the Presidency of Europe.

His candidacy will be backed by those other two New Labour stalwarts of Eurofascism, Global Governent and the War On Free Will, The Kinnocks. The Kinnocks, remember them? As a rewards for suporting Blair's bid for the Labour leadership they were both given plum jobs in Europe. Now the pair of them are not so much dipping their noses in the trough as taking a fucking bath in it.

Blair, who lied through his teeth to take us into the Iraq war, who became a traitor when he repeatedly put the interests of George W. Bush and his crooked aministration before those of the British state and people is as thick as thieves with those New Labour Nazis and Global control freaks who want to establish "a single culture" and a unified "global system of governance." Nothing new about these ideas which have been mentioned by members of unelected Gordon Brown's cabinet, the usurper Barack Hussein Obama's administration and former french president and International fraudster Jaques Chirac.

We must not ever let the control freak Blair near any position of power ever again. Words like honesty and integrity are not in his vocabulary. He though nothing of sending young British soldiers to their deaths to further his own ambitions. Look at the harm he did to Britain and think what harm he could do to the world in alliance with the turd burglar Barack Hussein Obama, and other enemies of democracy and champions of international control freakery like Nicolas Sarkozy, and of the billionaire bankers who back them.

Whenever you have a chance vote for the fringe candidates in elections. Vote for the mevericks, vote against the power of the mainstream concensus. VOTE FOR YOUR RIGHT TO THINK FOR YOURSELF

I Am Not A Number, I Am A Human Being

The Guardian's Jenni Russell, a Labour supporter in the past turns on the party and explains how their failure to win the popularity they expected after their claimed increases in public spending can be explained by the obsession with figures, targets, statistics and management babble. On top of that they made the great mistake of treating the public as stupid, thinking we would happily accept their statistics showing improvement in the NHS when people's experience is of patients being neglected while clinical staff are prioritizing bureaucratic tasks, why so many children are emerging from the education illiterate and inummerate and even university graduates on entering employment need remedial training in basic literacy and numeracy while examination result statistics show year on year improvement.

The area in which Labour claim their greatest success is the area of their greatest failure. Year after year the government have claimed improvement in crime figures. Year after year the public perception has been that the police are losing control of the streets. When Labour politicians talk about crime and ask why their successes hare not acknowledged media commentators are too slow to point out that the major fall in the crime rate was achieved by removing crimes committed by the under sixteens from the count. Since then crimes such as sexual assaults and opportunist theft which have little chance of resulting in a conviction have been lowered in status and police forces do not issue a crime number unless pressed. Meanwhile some traffic offences have been upgraded because as the offences are recorded by surveillance technology every reported (by the police themselves) crime results in an automatic conviction. Great for statistics, shite for the girl who has been groped by a total stanger.

That has always been the New Labour approach of course. They don't give a flying fuck about people, only about power.

Starve yourself and you might (MIGHT) live longer

Another of those scientific studies we so love to hate was released today. This one recommends restricting your calorie intake in order to have a longer life. And how have they proved this promotes (or "might possibly lead to" as scientists never seem to be able to come up with a definitive answer on anything) you living longer. Well they restricted the calorie intake of rhesus monkeys, letting other eat what they wished. Not chimps, not gorillas which are more closely related to humans, but rhesus monkeys which are quite a long way from us in evolutionary terms. Well OK, nobody in their right mind would try to stop a gorilla eating just what it wanted to eat but there is another factor at work. Rhesus monkeys tend not to live very long whereas chimps can live to over 50 in captivity and gorillas even longer. That's a long time to run an experiment. So the first thing we see is the usual flaw in these scientific studies, they do not compare like with like.

Next we have to consider the comparable behaviour. Presented with an unlimited supply of food most humans will at some point exercise self control; we are intelligent enough to know that too much can be as bad as too little. Having evolved differently, rhesus monkeys are liable to gorge themselves - instinct tells them to grab what they can as it may be a long time until the next meal. We cannot compare the behaviour of monkeys to humans.

So really it would be wise to ask yourself do you want to enjoy your food, even indulge yourself a little at times, live to maybe 80 and hope to shuffle off this mortal coil without suffering too much for to long or starve yourself and risk osteoporosis and organ deterioration just to sit in your own urine in a care home, devoid of hope and dignity for an extra five worthless and painful years.

Earlier this week you might remember, another report was published in which another merry band of scientists who were preternaturally clever but have never experienced much contact with reality announced a breakthrough in controlling Alzheimers disease. Their technique had worked well on mice they proudly proclaimed.

Now how the fucking hell would anybody know if a mouse has Alzheimer's Disease?

9 July 2009 Small Countries Refuse To Kiss Obama's Arse.

Barack Hussein Obama, President Of The Entire Universe And Everything Else Besides went to the G8 conference being held in the home of Don Vito Berlusconi's 18 year old porn star girlfriend thinking he was going to "fix" climate change by delivering a bit of "soaring rhetoric" aka mumbling and stumbling through the words of less than one syllabled dispalyed on his teleprompter screen and giving the other world leaders their instuctions on how their nations were to deliver what Mr. Obama wanted.

Things did not quite go according to plan. The vague commitments contained in the official communique can be summed up as saying, Fuck Off jug ears, when you have learned how to run your own country you can come and tell us how to run ours. We will still ignore you but more politely.

Basically what Obama, backed by his turd sucker in chief, was asking for was that the poor nations commit to cutting their carbon emissions by similar percentages to Americans. Now for an American its easy to get rid of the hummer and buy a Fiat Punto, switch off the airconditioning or go on a diet so he does not need a thirty ton truck to move his big fat arse around. For an impoverished Indian subsistence farmer it means the difference between life and death.

In one of his most meaningless statements Obama said not long ago "Words must mean something."

They do Barry, they do. Your trouble is you were too busy snorting coke, smoking dope and fucking rent boys to find out what the words you are using do mean. Which is why even those who started out worshipping you because of the colour of your skin are quickly learning you're a joke.

8 July 2009 Don't Demonise Securitization

Another apologist for the bankers tries to claim they are really very very nice people and the financial crisis that led us into the recession that isn't turning into a slump, honest it really really isn't, a nice politician told me so. We are wrong to demonise banking techniques such as securitization he claims.

He's right too. The bundling and trading of toxic assets until they had all found their way into our unit trusts and pension funds was not the work of Satan. Those greedy, amoral, shit sucking, scablouse licking, corpse fuking pus drinking sumbags wo worked in the banks are entiely responsible. If you know what I mean.

A Wellspring Of Human Rights

An article calling for access to clean water to be made a basic human right and included in the United Nations Universal Declaration Of Human Rights. Makes about as much sense as voting a man the right to bear children as was demanded by a member of the Judean People's Font in Monty Python's Life Of Brian.

While we would all wish that every human being on the planet could have access to fresh, pure water, adequate food, assurance that nobody is going to put a bullet through their back, and soft, perfumed toilet paper so wiping their arse does not hurt when they have piles you have to wonder if these Politically Correct Though Police have ever set foot on Panet Reality. What is the point of declaring something a human right when we cannot deliver it.

We know that in their perfect world The Obamessiah would feed everybody on manna from heaven and give them them to drink the sweet nectar that oozes from his divine pores but for fuck's sake Obama is not God. In fact he is not even Barack Obama, his real, legal name is Barry Soetoro. And once people get their heads round that perhaps they will cut out all this bleeding heart crap about poverty and deprivation and try to understand just how fragile our western standard of living is and how most of the six billion people in the world are more at the mercy of capricious, unpredictable nature than they are at rick from being deprived of their human rights.

I mean if some poor bastard in Congo is granted the right of acess to fresh pure water it is not going to stop the evil fuckers from the neighbouring tribe chopping his hands off so he can't raise a cup to his lips is it? And then what will the human rights brigade do for him. I'll tell you, fuck all, because the wimpy, wussky hand wringers will be fretting about the "rights" of the limb amputators.

But at least the smug, sushi scoffing scumbags will be able to have their dinner parties in London and New York and Chicago and congratulate each other on being such wonderful people who have given so much REAL help to the poor and underfuckingprivileged.

The Folly Of Innovation
Little Nicky Machiavelli

Sad to see Andrew Keen who once wrote a book about the sheer awfulness of the internet (The Cult Of The Amateur) now praising the "technological revolution" and talking about how those who have no access to the web will be left behind in the rat race (Is Innovation Fair).

Maybe somebosy paid off Keen. Maybe Little Nicky Machiavelli should write a book about how the internet makes us unable to distinguish between worthwhile content and dross so the dross merchants will pay me to get off their case.

The internet, like a child with ADHD thrives on novelty and noise. Therefore I wonder if it is the 25% in Britain (75% worldwide) who are not wired that will be left behind or wil they continue to develop, profiting from life experience and book learning, while the online community stagnate into a subspecies of twitterers and delusion dwellers?

Just sayin'

Larry Sinclair and Barack Obama

After an enforced latoff for a few days The Daily Stirrer is back with an item about a book that should really stir things up. Chicago rent boy Larry Sinclair has at last and inspite of many obstructions but in his way, physical threats and legal harassment, published his autobiographical account of his alleged gay love affair with President Barack Obama. Sinclair says that when Obama was an Illinois state senator he and the male postitute snorted coke together and had sex many times.

Sinclair also alleges another gay lover of Obama, choirmaster Donald Young was murdered in very suspicious circumstances shortly after he threatened to go public on Obama's homosexuality just as the President was about to launch his campaign for the White House.

Should be an intereating read. The title is Barack Obama and Larry Sinclair. CLICK HERE to get your copy.

Unemployment at 8.3% Still Leaves A Vast And Destructive Jobs Deficit Robert Reich, The Guardian
The most significant aspect of January's jobs report is political. The fact that America's labor market continues to improve is good news for the White House. But as a practical matter, the improvement is less significant for the American workforce.
President Obama's only chance for rebutting Republican claims that he's responsible for a bad economy is to point to a positive trend. Voters respond to economic trends as much as ...

Hundreds of Independent Bookshops Face Closure
Hundreds of independent bookshops could be forced to close unless local authorities do more to support them, a leading retail group has warned. The Booksellers Association (BA), which represents 3,500 independent bookshops across the UK, has written to almost 400 council chiefs urging them to do more to support their local high streets or risk ...

Solar Panels Subsidy Was The Most Ridiculous Green Scheme Deramed Up
A plan to subsidise solar panels on homes was “one of the most ridiculous schemes ever dreamed up”, a Government minister has said.
Lord Marland, an Energy minister, hit out at the cost of so-called feed-in tariffs, which the Government has axed as part of the cuts programme. Last week Court of Appeal ruled that the sudden axing of the tariffs ...

Goodbye Great Britain
Recently, there have been two powerful challenges to the conventional wisdom about the United States. First, Robert Kagan published a lengthy essay in The New Republic, arguing that predictions of America's decline as a global power are woefully premature. .Is it possible, I found myself wondering, to do something similar for Britain? Robert Colvile has a go in this Daily Telegraph article ...

The Obama administration knifes Britain in the back again over the Falklands - By Nile Gardiner World
In yet another display of disdain for the Anglo-American Special Relationship, the Obama administration has weighed in on the mounting tensions between Great Britain and Argentina over the Falkland Islands. Just two days after Prime Minister David Cameron issued a robust statement in the House of Commons vowing to defend the sovereignty of the Falklands,…

Drones In The Hands Of The Paparrazi - It's an ethical minefield
America's use of drones for targeted killings is serious enough. But commercial and law enforcement uses are on the horizon. Whether you view them as model aeroplanes for grown-ups or the handmaidens of the killer robot, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, are taking off in earnest. ...

The Observer uncritically regurgitates Trotskyist smears against Katharine Birbalsingh- By Toby Young, Daily Telegraph
There’s a disgraceful attempt to smear Katharine Birbalsingh in this morning’s Observer. Under the headline “Katharine Birbalsingh criticised over ‘wasteful’ free school project“, the paper’s policy editor Daniel Boffey tries to create the impression that there’s growing local opposition to the Michaela Community School – Birbalsingh’s free school – which is due to open in…

We’re being sent the bill for the euro crisis again – this time by the IMF - By Daniel Hannan First it was individual banks; then whole industries; then entire countries; now it’s the world. Western leaders have reacted to the failure of each bailout by decreeing a bigger one. Unable to admit their mistake, slaves to the defunct economist whose thinking dominates our economics faculties and central banks, they act like so many Nick Leesons,…

The Three Parent Family More on the progressive left's war on the family and the scientific dictaorship's attempts to dehumanize us all. Babies with three biological parents could be born within three years. Scientists have come up with an IVF technique that uses the undamaged DNA of a third party when couples risk giving their children a genetic conditions such as muscular dystrophy or ataxia. The Wellcome Trust has funded the research (the figures vary between £4 million and six million …

As Obama Positions Himself For A War In Syria We Learn That Like Gadaffi, Assad Is Popular With His People
Most Syrians back President Assad, but you'd never know from western mediaAssad's popularity, Arab League observers, US military involvement: all distorted in the west's propaganda war. Suppose a respectable opinion poll found that most Syrians are in favour of Bashar al-Assad remaining as president, would that not be major news? Well one did and we never heard a word of it in the Obama felching western media ...

Bullshit Sherlock
While other blogs are full of how great the cliff - faller ending of Sherlock Holmes was I felt a bit let down. The fake suicide was telegraphed all through the show. And the coda assured us Sherlock had survived. We should not forget of course it was the habit of ...

Will bringing back grammar schools boost social mobility? by Toby Young Daily Telegraph
The possibility that England may shortly see its first new grammar school in over 50 years has, predictably enough, re-opened the debate about selective education. Yesterday, for instance, Allison Pearson came down firmly in favour, while Fiona Millar shot back with an instant rebuttal. I’ll get into that argument in a moment, but first let’s be…

So Why Read Books Anymore
There is great “truth and beauty” in Homer’s Iliad, but I would not try to make his sale on such platitudes. Gibbon’s The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire remains a classic. But I confess it can be hard to get through. Conrad’s Victory or Knut Hamsun’s Growth of the Soil, if authored by writer X this year, would be trashed on Amazon. So what are the reasons, in this age of ...

Eric Holder and the Chicago Way In America Obama's Brownshirts are getting hysterical as they try to make race the major issue in the election campaign.

Dystopian Prophecies Are Coming True - The Government Will Soon Choose Our Wives
Thinking of this entertaining new literary award – “the Hatchet Job of the Year” – it was natural to turn to Macaulay’s Essays, for few reviewers have ever been less reluctant to wound. I had in mind two long review-essays, one on Robert Montgomery’s Poems, the other on The State in its relations with ...
