UK academic says Integrity Initiative fatally hurt by leaks
The Integrity Initiative, a UK based NGO set up to combat misinformation (a.k.a fake news) by spreading the fake news governments and supra - national bureaucracies want us to see is in trouble, in fact some of its critics say it is so damaged by leaks revealing the organisation dismissed true reports as misinformation and promoted goverment favourable narratives which were fabricated to divert and distract attention from those organisations trying to report events with integrity.
The Integrity Initiative website states:
We are a network of people and organizations from across Europe dedicated to revealing and combating propaganda and disinformation. Our broader aim is also to educate on how to spot disinformation and verify sources. This kind of work attracts the extremely hostile and aggressive attention of disinformation actors, like the Kremlin and its various proxies, so we hope you understand that our members mostly prefer to remain anonymous. The facts and information we present are all in the public domain, however, and you can investigate for yourselves. The network is coordinated from the UK. We are not a government body but we do work with government departments and agencies who share our aims.
That final sentence is pretty damning, since when did government departments have any genuine interest in or committment to putting the truth in the public domain?
Although the story has been ignored by mainstream media, leaks from Integrity Initiative have completely paralyzed the operations of the UK-funded news manipulation network, and could lead to its being wound up, a British academic has said.
“This has made a mess of [Integrity Initiative’s] operations, they are spending most of their time now trying to fire-fight on the coverage this is getting. And they are not doing essentially what they are being paid to do, which is to counter the Russians,” David Miller, Professor of Political Sociology at the University of Bristol School for Policy Studies, told RT News.
“The British government is getting bad value for money, if it was getting any value at all.”
As part of the Working Group on Syria, Propaganda and Media, which was commissioned to report on US / EU / NATO efforts to control media coverage of key events such as the conflict in Syria, Miller has been involved in studying four tranches of data uploaded and sourced from the previously little-known group by anonymous parties. The revelations are all the more damaging because the obviously misnamed Integrity Initiative has been publicly backed by the UK Foreign Office, NATO and self appointed internet news censors Facebook, to the tune of over £1 million per year.
The documents, the authenticity of which has not at any stage been denied, were found to contain details of psyops against public figures, the manipulation of news reports in leading Western outlets to present events in a way favourable to the US / NATO goal or prioritising the removal of the Assad regime in Syria, and revealed worldwide network of journalists and academics working to discredit, in every way possible, pro-Moscow opinions and reporting.
Despite the refusal by all of those named to either admit their connection or to say that there was nothing untoward in their activities, Miller believes that the exposure has made it more difficult for them to push and publish anti-Russian content. This casts oubt on the narrative spun around the Skripal poisoning case in the UK, and further discredits the ridiculous claim of the US Democratic Party that Donald Trump, in collaboration with the Russian government, manipulated the US election result to steal the presidency from Hillary Clinton.
“Most of the people named in the leaked documents are trying to pretend that this is of no great significance, but apart from being anoyher case of information deliberately withheld from the public proving those of us ridiculed as "conspiracy theorists" were actually right. The revelation of the involvement of the government in manipulating political events and election outcomes in other countries, and the political process in the UK, as well as suppressing news not favourable to their agenda is extremely damaging,” Miller said, via video link.
