The Race To Civil Unrest

One of the things many observers who refused to surrender the power to think for themselves came to fear as it became obvious that Barack Obama and his shadowy backers were likely to steal the US Presidency was that it would send the anti-racism industry into top gear. Sure enough in the UK we have seen Trevor Phillips, head of the Equality and Human Rights Council trying to pretend that the same kind of inequality as existed in the USA has always existed in Britain as well.

We have had to listen to a very good actor who has had major roles in many television and stage dramas whining that he is sick of "waiting for his career to take of in Britain" as if his colour is the only reason he is not given every role he demands. One of the ironies of the acting profession is that one person may become a star while many equally talented actors spend their career in supporting roles. The profession does not have a reliable career path and many actors would cut off their right arm for the parts David Harewood, currently playing Friar Tuck in the Robin Hood series.

Another black actor, Kwami Kwai Ameh whose career peaked when he played a paramedic in Casualty for several years has also complained of how his career has failed to take off. In his case work has become so scare he has become a writer, critic and professional race whiner. In his mind the lack of success after Casualty is entirely due to his colour and nothing at all to do with him having the acting ability of a plank.

To return to Friar Tuck, some race whiners have tried to make something of David Harewood's being "the first black member of The Merry Men". This is not true, I'm a great Robin Hood fan and distinctly remember a mixed race or perhaps North African actor having a featured role in either Kevin Costner's or Patrick Bergin's Merry Men in the 1980s films. The real point is though, why does it matter. It is only the race whiners who make us aware of David Harewood's colour. He is a good actor and plays the role without any Will Smith style smart - mouthed black guy schtick. There were certainly black people around in Medieval Britain, not many but some, they re referred to in literature as Blackamoors, so it is not impossible that one of Robin Hood's men could have been African or mixed race. The real point is nobody would notice if the race industry did not make a big deal of it. Most British viewers would say "Oh look, Friar Tuck is that guy who was the Detective Sergeant in The Vice and the fitness instructor in Fat Friends. He's been in loads of stuff, always plays the nice guy.

Perhaps Mr. Harewood's problem is not his colour but that he is just not a believable bastard.

What brought the attention of The Daily Stirrer to the race issue today was an article by a black writer. In Words and Deeds On Race Latoyah Peterson cites the case of a promotion examination for Fire-fighters in New York:

The fire-fighters took a promotional exam, but the results were abysmal - the International Hispanic Fire-fighter's Association notes: "For the lieutenant's exam, the pass rate for whites was 58.14%, but for African-Americans, it was 31.58%, and for Latinos, it was a mere 20%." The City of New Haven alleged that they were simply trying to avoid discriminatory hiring and promotion practices by shelving the results of the exam rather than taking action as a critical mass of black people and Latinos did not pass the exam.

So really she is complaining that the white guys felt miffed they were disqualified from promotion because the African Americans and Latinos did not do well enough to gain higher rank.

I'm 'with the New York fire brigade, anyone who puts his or her life on the line day after day has a right to lknow the person giving orders is in that position by virtue of being the best person for the job, not because of some politically correct nonsense.

In her argument she cites the McPherson report on the racism shown by the police who investigated the racist killing of Stephen Lawrence by a gang of white youths but makes no mention of the murder of 10 year old Damilola Taylor, a case which the race industry was set to turn into another media carnival until it was proved that the quiet, studious Damilola, recently arrived in Britain from Ghana with his professional parents who emigrated in order to give their children better opportunities, had been killed by Black boys slightly older than himself who were involved in gang violence and petty crime. There is seldom any mention of the fact that most violence on black or Asian people in Britain is by other black or Asian groups.

As long as the Politically Correct Though Police cannot understand that equality means just that and everybody must be treated in the same way the efforts of the race lobby, the multiculturalism brigade and the middle class guilt trippers will increase tensions. In a nation state there can only be one dominant culture, minorities must accept that they will be accepted so long as they do not try to gain privilege but amplifying complaints about bias.

in the case of the New York fire-fighters above the top guys should be promoted regardless of colour or ethnic origin. In the case of actors the role will go to the person the producer thinks is best for it. And in the case of murders, equal efforts must be made to bring the culprits to trial. It is also time we stopped being had over by the slavery ploy. At the time the slave trade was abolished in British colonies most Britons were working on the land or in factories, living mainly on porridge, oatcakes, mutton broth and a bit of cheese if they were lucky. They were certainly not enjoying lives of luxury funded by the fortunes made in the slave trade.

When Latoyah Peterson cites a paper that complains of European nations not doing enough to strike a balance between preserving the cultural diversity of ethnic and religious minorities and advancing the integration of individuals into the mainstream she is guilty of demanding a utopian solution. In Britain we have a long tradition of accepting immigrant groups and encouraging them to preserve their culture and traditions. Eventually though it is the incomer who must adapt to the British way. Were we to adapt to accommodate every immigrant group including those who do not wish their children to grow up speaking English as a first language, very soon our society would break down, inter racial and inter cultural conflict would be rife and nobody would be very interested in protecting minorities then.

It is not the colour of a person's skin that causes racism towards them but the way they behave.

If people want to be equal there can be no demands for privilege, no uplift on examination marks or affirmative action, such things will always cause resentment. Equal right means everybody gets the same. No special cases, SAME RULES APPLY.

That may be so, but it is also a defeat for democracy, justice and sanity.

September 2010 Uptight - The Blood Donor Experience
by fatsally
Once upon a time giving blood was easy, the atmosphere relaxed and people were encouraged to feel as is they were doing something good and worthwhile. Now, acording to fatsally's latest experience, a visit to the blood bank to offer a life saving armful is like The Prisoner meets Orwell's Big Brother. Bureaucracy has taken over and nobody is allowed to fel relaxed. Rules are rules.

Just been along to blood donors.
I've been going for years.
Loads of changes have occured over the time.

The first time I went, to a permanent centre in London, you could have a tin of Guinness as your post donating drink if you wished. A splendid idea but unfortunately it tended to attract the alcoholics, especially as ...

Court Victory For Anti - MMR Campaigners.
It is the medical scandal that refuses to go away. Since its introduction controversy has surrounded the MMR vaccine because in a small number - and we must stress, a small number - of cases children develop serious and permanent side effects after reveiving the vaccine. Now at last, after following a tactic used successfully in the USA and keeping the word autism out of their case, lawyers working for the family of Robert Fletcher have won the first award of compensation for 'brain damage' reslting from the MMR vaccine.

Property Prices To Fall Again?Despite government eforts to talk up a recovery the economy remains stubbornly stagnant. It is unsurprising really, the UK economy still relies far too much on the housing and property market and with incomes being squeezed and house prices remaining so high they are beyond the reach of first time buyers there is little change of increased activity while unemployment continues to rise.

Food Will Cost The Earth
A bid by Australian mining giant BHP Billiton to buy Potash Corp of Canada draws attention to food price inflation, rising commodity prices in world markets and an impending global food supply crisis. It is not just potash, essential in food production, but other finite resources like oil that corporate giants are bidding to gain control of that should concern us. Cameron in Babygate Puzzle
The birth of a healthy child is always a happy event but the birth of a child to the wife of a serving national leader is bound to attract close scrutiny. So do certain contradictions in reporting of circumstances surrounding the birth of David and Samantha Cameron's daughter mean the conspiracy theorists will soon be at work?

Do We Need GM Salmon
US authorities today began the process to approve the first GM animal for human consumption.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a 60-day period of consultation and public meetings over whether to permit a GM strain of salmon to be eaten by humans, even though it has been called a "frankenfish" by critics. The approval process could take less than a year, and if it gets the green light the fish could be on the market in 18 months.
Environmentalists and scientists see the decision as marking a threshold. If it is approved it is likely to open the door to a large range of ...
