In Greenteeth's meditations pages we aim to bring you a little sample of the rewarding experiences to be found without straying too far fro9m home. Many people say they have favourite times of the day. Anytime of day is my fvourite if I am with the right people and doing the right things. Sunsets are very photogenic though. We can't claim you will find our meditations scenes in a place near you, nature is wonderfully varied. There are posibilities wherever you are to experience the ambience we found in the places these photographs were taken. Just look at the world around you with an appreciative eye.

The Old Gravel Pit

One of the themes the Greenteeth team like to follow in our meditations series of pages is the beauty and sense of oneness to be found in places that in the fairly recent past have been ravaged by human activity but have now been reclaimed by nature. This sunset scene with the tree line on the far side of the water silhouetted against the warm sunset tones of the sky may appear to have been taken in a remote place that would appeal to seekers of peace and solitude but in fact is a flooded gravel pit near London. There are many such pits in the area, excavated as he city expanded rapidly with the growth of the British Empire in the eighteenth century. Aggregated were extracted from the pits until early in the twentieth century then they were abandoned to nature. Many have now been adopted by local authorities and are now open to the public for water sports, walking and relaxation. They make welcome islands of natural beauty in the urban sprawl if south east England.
