Obama and FUKUS Axis Air Strikes On ISIS Will Make Things Worse

Leon Panetta, former Defense Secretary in the Obama Administration thinks he knows how the rise of the Islamic State (IS) was possible. Western and, by default, American inaction is to blame Panetta says.

‘We created this vacuum by not paying attention to what was happening in Iraq or what was happening in Syria with the extremists who were developing a base of operations there.’ This vacuum, he concludes, ‘is what produced the ISIS we’re confronting today,’ he told a press conference.

Panetta is nearly right. It was not failure to act that created the power vacuum which IS aims to fill, but ill thought - out and irresponsible interventions by the west to overthrow unpleasant and uncooperative tyrants and forment rebellion against theocratic regimes led to an absence of legitimate government and civic institutions and a breakdown of law and order. The removal of Saddam Hussein in Iraq and so far unsuccessful but hugely disruptive efforts to overthrow Assad in Syria has allowed IS to rise rapidly, filling the gap where a functioning government ought to be. This is why over the past year IS have been so quick and easy – it has been like breaking into a house with no doors.

The Daily Stirrer, Little Nicky Machiavelli and Boggart Blog have consistently argued it was Western intervention rather than inaction that created the problem. Too much militarised interference, too much ‘acting on behalf of’, too much do-gooding sentiment. Too much politically correct handwringing to justify an American administration's 'perpetual war' foreign policy. And to our eternal shame, UK political leaders have been happy to act as Hollywood style loyal but dimwitted sidekick to American Presidents, thus legitimizing the warmongering.

Naturally The Daily Stirrer opposes the latest bombing-from-on-high Western intervention in this already FUBAR regions. As we predicted the moment Barack Hussein Obama, with a lascivious grin, began to talk of intervention we predicted, correctly as it has turned out, that the ISIS leadership would get their fighters in among the civilian population and pictures of the broken bodies of women and children killed by western bombs and missiles would arouse even more hatred of the west and boost recruitment for the jihadist cause. Not only does a campaign of air strikes prolong and deepen the humanitarian and political problems, it robs people in nation being bombed of the capacity to sort out their own conflicts, no matter how difficult that may be.

Iraq is the prime example of this. Western politicians and pundits have been taking turns to blame the former Iraqi prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, for allowing IS to exploit Sunni Muslim alienation from Iraq’s Shia dominated government. Though in practical terms Maliki's power never extended far outside Baghdad, and according to many people not even beyond the walls of the government compound, he seemed intent on pissing off the Sunni tribal leaders whose help had been indispensable to leaders of America's occupying army. Maliki did not bring Iraqi society together as he was expected to do, we have learned from insiders he was dividing it along sectarian lines.

Therefore we can expect the latest US bombing campaign to achieve what all the others have; the opposite of what was intended. Albert Einstein once said the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result. When American 'liberals' tell me their current President is a phenomenally intelligent man, look back over my articles and blogs on his recent foreign policy misadventures and the number of times he has done exactly the same as many times before and I laugh so much I nearly shit.
